LOL of the day - "A Shot in the Face"

Found it on YouTube by accident and promptly burst into laughter. The film is pretty funny to begin with, but the thing that had me nearly in tears was Nick Lea playing the robber. Inept, tripping over his own feet, having anger control problems, curly-haired, "I shoot people in the faces" robber. Complete with polyester trousers, dubious leather jacket and even more dubious sunglasses.

The film was made in 2001 and, as a user's review on IMDb says: "it's the story of a man who's inherited a hundred grand from an uncle who had only one wish, that his nephew not waste his life like he did. But the problem is that since he has received the money, he hasn't been compelled to do anything." The person who uploaded the film to YouTube, unfortunately edited it, so some of the funniest scenes are actually cut, but it's worth watching anyway.

I took a few screencaps for future LOLs. You know, Christmas is coming so I'll need all the LOLs I can get.

Here we see The Robber (as the character is aptly named) for the first time when he tries to rob a grocery store. After tripping over a stand with newspapers, of course.

02

03

The robbery doesn't quite go as planned (and here the uploader's editing is painfully visible), the robber runs away, throws his gun into some bushes and hides behind a convenient shelter. The whole sequence is just hilarious. Nick Lea definitely should star in comedies more often because he's obviously got talent for it.

04

The gun is found by Jerry, who's actually the main character and happened to be inside the store when it was robbed AND had his wallet stolen from him as well. Jerry takes the gun and drives away. The Robber is not happy.

05

Then the police siren is heard somewhere in the distance, so The Robber runs for good. The next time we see him as he picks up Jerry's friend-almost-girlfriend when she needs to get to a bus station. He tries to flirt. Not successfully.

06

07

In the end he goes back home alone, remembers he's got Jerry's stolen wallet, and upon seeing the ATM's receipt and the huge amount of money Jerry's got in his bank account, he decides to pay him a little visit. A tiny kitchen knife features prominently as a weapon of choice.

08

09

They go to Jerry's bank, where The Robber tries to make Jerry withdraw his money. Discreetly, of course.

10

11

Needless to say, it doesn't go as planned, again. Then Jerry's almost-girlfriend arrives:

12

The Robber and her fight a bit for a gun, it goes off and Jerry's shot in the face. Oops.

13

And that's actually the last time we see The Robber. Jerry lands in a hospital, where he's visited by his almost-girlfriend and then they go away together in Jerry's old-but-renewed (by his probably girlfriend-by-now) car. Jerry's got his life change and happy ending is had by all.

In other news, I'm working on another demented X-Files fanmix and after watching A Shot in the Face I got an even more demented idea for cover art. Now I only need to find some decent Twin Peaks screencaps *cackles*.
