Let me show you.

Pun intended.

Tak, to miało być PWP.

Hmm, there’s a nice prompt at [livejournal.com profile] multifandom_pl for day 6 of the ficathon. Should I write smut or not?

Seriously, the ficlet can go several ways, but I’m thinking that maybe I should finally write some porn for this fandom. This fandom being Whitechapel, so that we’re clear. And porn being between Chandler and Kent.

Any advice anyone?

Angielski zatem pozostaje.

You know how it sometimes is with a new fandom? Or maybe every fandom? You'd like to maybe write something, but you don't really know what. And you'd like to get a better feel of the characters so you'd like the fic to be short and somehow character-focussed as opposed to an action-driven one.

So you find a kink meme and think 'Hey, this looks good. And I don't even have to write smut, there are bound to be some interesting prompts in here.' And you do find a few prompts that you'd like to try. And you choose one, thinking that it'll surely be 600-700 words at most because your writing has always been too concise and since there are no big plot developments, it'll take you just a few days to write.

And then you let the fic consume your brain and it's two bloody weeks later and you've only just finished the stupid thing and it takes 30 effing pages in your notebook *headdesk*.

Because why spend your two-week holidays just doing nothing: re-watching favourite shows, reading that pile of books you've been putting aside for when YOU'VE GOT HOLIDAYS when you can write fics, kidding yourself every day that you see the end. A week into the writing I realised the end is nowhere in sight. It's always bloody the same: you just stare at the page, thinking 'come on, guys, why do you feel the need to do this or that or go there or drink pints of tea before you even consider moving on?'

Well, at least I finished it just as I finished the holidays.

Also, no smut. I fail at kink memes.

In other (but sort of related) news: I made my friend watch Whitechapel. After watching S1 and S2, he texted me: 'Murders are awesome but Kent's so gay and so in love with Chandler it's not even funny'.

Now he and his wife are having debates over Kent's chances with Chandler and I got another text: 'I hate you, you perv. I want S3 and S4'.

Mission accomplished. Hehhheheheeheeheh

Hm, you know, it's strange how sometimes the characters you write about have this way of surprising you. You put yourself in their shoes, take on their perspective and suddenly you've got this whole paragraph - or five - of what they're thinking about and you feel vaguely uncomfortable because you didn't think it would go that way and then you wonder where the hell it all came from.

Ah, it's always the quiet ones that surprise you the most.

Reblogging this from Writing Advice Tumblr because, damn, that's a pice of very good advice.

In six seconds, you’ll hate me.

But in six months, you’ll be a better writer.

From this point forward—at least for the next half year—you may not use “thought” verbs. These include: Thinks, Knows, Understands, Realizes, Believes, Wants, Remembers, Imagines, Desires, and a hundred others you love to use.

The list should also include: Loves and Hates.

And it should include: Is and Has, but we’ll get to those later.

I HATE WRITING.

Well, no, that's not actually true. Actually, it's complete rubbish, but I'm just a tad frustrated. See, I've decided to take part in this one meme. Thought to myself, hey, that's a lot of prompts, maybe I'll try something. So, I tried *headdesk*. It was supposed to be fairly easy and, you know, not a long story because it has to be posted in comments and I don't want to post it 20 or 30 parts and it's a kink meme so the fic would be practically a PWP. And since I write fics like one'd write reports (concise to a fault) I thought it'd be a piece of cake, right?

Wrong. Because the the bloody thing grew. And grew and grew and now it's nearly 6.000 words and it's not even finished. I finally decided to split it to two prompts instead of one.

And then the whole writing of sex scenes - apparently I can't write them without lots of background information, like the whole leading up to what was supposed to be the story takes so bloody long I'm surprised it gets there at all. 4.000 words and the characters don't even kiss. Of course, another thing is that I actually can't write sex, but I'd thought it'd be a good exercise. Trying something new and all that. Yeah, that was smart. Not. The only saving grace is that the fandom allows for creative anatomy. I have a feeling I should make myself an icon with "creative anatomy FTW" and use it every time I hit a writing!fail.

But, I've got a newfound respect for the pr0n-writing gals and guys.

The good news is, however, that I've finally finished the fic (for that first prompt, the second waits patiently for my better mood *evil eye*. And since I've got the whole "leading up" thing behind me, this one will hopefully be shorter. Yeah, there's hoping). Now I only have to agonise over it for a couple of days more and I'm done.

This note is therefore to remind me to never take part in any writing meme ever again. Especially not the kinky ones (stupid sex life). And yes, this resolve will only last as long as I don't find another prompt I'll just have to write or the pairing almost nobody else writes for *facepalm*.
